Friendship —> This Way
My 39th birthday was an intentional celebration of all the people in my life that reached their sweet little arms out and held me while I needed it. My hope was to say “thank you, I see you” to those people who bolstered me in ways only love can. It included multiple art installations, some interactive small pieces, and a series of 25 (24 pictured below) individual paintings of each person. All photos by Lisa Frare Photography
Each painting was an abstract representation of a different friend in attendance.
I sourced this red wood branch from my friends land, a very special place for me, and then gold leafed the ends and attached eyelet hooks for people to leave messages, read messages, etc.
I think love is a certain type of magic; an alchemy that has us believing we are capable of anything, which then is further bolstered by loving encouragement, a wide smile, a quick squeeze of the hand before you dive head first into the new version of yourself. This video is an homage to the people who have watched me revisit myself many times over, and still give me the hand squeeze before jumping to my newest version. I took an excerpt from Rilke that has always landed with me as truth -- or something close to it -- and have the full quote below should you be interested in it. Film length ~ 7 min
